FIRST YOU HAVE TO FINISH!

What would you do to get your kids to pass the high stakes test at your grade level?

Just about anything!

Let me tell you what I did. I decided to take it with them. I took it right beside them and let them see how I did it. All they had to do was copy me and I guaranteed a pass.

Sounds fishy? I did it!

The test was the Presidential Fitness Test of running the mile. For the last three years I have had over a 95% pass rate for the mile/pacer test for my classroom.

2002 Started to run as a way to get out of the house
2003 Ran mile as a pacer for my kids at school
2004 Implemented a Quarter Mile per recess rule
Suggested we meet after school to just run
2005 Began keeping track of student’s distances
Started an After-School running program for students at my school
2006 My students ran over 2500 miles!
Neighbors section article written about my running club
Asked to be official ‘SpokesTurkey’ for the Rescue Mission
2007 My students ran over 2000 miles
Recognized by Governor Tim Kaine for my work with students

How do I do it?
