The Drumstick Dash
5K Race and Family Fun Walk
Roanoke's newest Thanksgiving Tradition

For 3 years now, I waddled through Downtown Roanoke dressed as "Dash" the official "SpokesTurkey" for the Rescue Mission's Thanksgiving day fundraiser.
I did not have my usual running clothes on. I was dressed as a turkey! I had a fantastic looking outfit, complete with a turkey tail made of donated neck ties.
I did not run alone. In 2006, I waddled with over 1500 others as we “Moved our feet so others can eat.” Now the count is over 10,000 participants! It is now the biggest race in Roanoke.
I did not run for nothing! In the two years since we started, the Drumstick Dash as raised almost half a million dollars for the shelter!
All the money from the race went straight to physically and spiritually feeding those around Roanoke who will need it the most.

Thanks to all those who came out on a beautiful Thanksgiving morning and "earned your pie"!
