Jesus is an Endurance Athlete

And beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, He expounded to them in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. (Luke 24:27)

On the same day that Jesus rose from the dead, He met up with two disciples on a seven-mile walk away from Jerusalem. They did not recognize Him, but He spent the two-hour stroll teaching the Bible. Not just any Bible lesson, but an Old Testament overview about the coming messiah. Luke 24 says He started at Genesis (the first book of Moses) and told them ALL about Himself in ALL the Old Testament!

I bet He told them about the prophecies that said ...
He would come from Abraham’s line. (Genesis 12:3)
His mother would be a virgin. (Isaiah 7:14)
He would be born in Bethlehem. (Micah 5:2)
He would come into Jerusalem on a donkey. (Zechariah 9:9)
His captors would cast lots for His clothes. (Psalm 22:18)
He would be raised from the dead. (Psalm 16:10)

After that intense Bible study along with the days events and the walk to Emmaus, the disciples were pooped! Jesus wanted to go further, but they convinced Him to stay. They broke bread with Him, and soon noticed that their teacher WAS JESUS!

What did the tired and weary disciples do next?

“They got up and returned at once to Jerusalem,” and told the others, "It is true! The Lord has risen!” (Luke 24:33-34)

They ran back the seven-mile road to tell others the Good News.

In November 2006, I did the same thing!

On Thanks giving day I ran the “Drumstick Dash”. It was a family race/walk to benefit the Roanoke Rescue Mission in Downtown Roanoke. I waddled over 3 miles with 1500 of others as we “Move our feet so others can eat.” All $100,000 raised from the race went straight to physically and spiritually feeding those around Roanoke who will need it the most. I did not have my usual running clothes on. I was dressed as a turkey.

The Mission attempts to show "Love in Action" to all it serves and its desire is that this demonstration of Christ's love will bring people to repentance and belief in Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord.
